New features in BrowseControl include:
- Newly Designed Console & Client NEW!
Introducing our new Console and Client with an enhanced architecture!
Now available on an even more powerful and robust common console, CurrentWare Console, the Internet filtering and monitoring policies of both BrowseControl and BrowseReporter can efficiently be administered through this common interface.
The clients for BrowseControl and BrowseReporter have also been combined into one common client, offering improved deployment through Active Directory, 3rd party deployment tools or through remote installation from the CurrentWare Console.
- Terminal Server Compatibility NEW!
BrowseControl and BrowseReporter now support a Terminal Server environment. Internet access or web monitoring of thin clients can be administered by installing the new CurrentWare Server/Console and the CurrentWare Client on the Terminal Server.
- Enhanced Scheduler NEW!
While Internet access is restricted to company authorized sites during work hours, you may want to allow users access to personal sites during non-work hours (e.g. at lunch time). Through the Scheduler assign times when users are allowed access to non-work related sites. These sites are pre-selected by the administrator/manager.
a) Internet ON – users/PCs are allowed full access to the Internet, except for those sites listed under the Blocked List.
b) Custom Allowed List – Internet access is restricted to those sites listed under the “Custom Allowed List” during the scheduled time(s). Sites under the original Allowed List (URL Filter) are accessible at all times.
c) Custom Blocked List – Internet access to sites listed under the “Custom Blocked List” are blocked during the scheduled times. The Custom Blocked List supersedes the original “Blocked List” during the scheduled times.
- Offsite Internet Access Control
Ensure that your organization’s Internet permission policies are enforced on offsite systems as well. Allowed/Blocked lists, AppBlocker settings and any other BrowseControl settings can be configured to extend to laptops/workstations used by offsite or mobile users.
- Windows Vista Support
BrowseControl supports the Windows Vista operating system. All three BrowseControl components (console, server and client) are compatible on Vista.
- USB Blocking
Blocking of USB storage devices has now been implemented. This complements the existing feature of blocking CD and floppy devices.
- User Based Mode
BrowseControl is now able to function in two modes, Computer based and User based. User mode allows control over each user on the network, while the Computer based mode, manages at the PC level. All the functionalities and settings that are available for the Computer based mode are also applicable in the User based mode.
- Active Directory Integration
In the User based mode, users can be imported directly from Active Directory.
- Remote Installation of Clients
Clients can be remotely installed from the BrowseControl Console, thereby eliminating the need to visit individual client PCs.
- Redirect Clients
The “Redirect Clients” feature of BrowseControl will allow you to resolve any incorrect entries of the Server IP address on the Client remotely from the Console. In addition, through this utility, the clients can also be redirected to an alternate server, should the server component be moved to a different system.
- Shutdown Scheduler
Shutdown/Boot time for the Client computers can be scheduled remotely from the Console using the Shutdown Scheduler.
- Bypass Applications
Legitimate applications such as FlexLM that require Internet access can now circumvent BrowseControl through the Bypass utility. The communication from applications listed in the Bypass utility will not be blocked by BrowseControl.
- “URL Access Denied” Notification on Browser Page
There are more options available for notifying users when an unauthorized url page has been accessed. The options include displaying a message on a pop-up window, redirecting the user to a specified home page or presenting a message within a browser window.
- Operator Permissions
Operators (administrators/teachers who have login rights to the BrowseControl Console) can extend the access permissions to both groups and sub groups of computers/users.
- Prevent Admin Users from Stopping The Client Service
Users with administrative rights will not be able to terminate the BrowseControl client service
from the task manager or the service manager. The BrowseControl client service is protected by
the BrowseControl client password defined by the administrator.
- Block More File Types
Administrators can now block more files from being downloaded onto their network by simply
enabling the option in group settings. The blocked file types now include video, audio and
executable files.
- Importing Active Directory Users as Operators
Integrate your AD users into BrowseControl as operators with a click of a button.
